About the Exhibition
Inspired by the works of Satoshi Kon, my exhibition revolves around the idea of duality and presents multiple smaller paracosms that give insight to a variety of situations. A large portion of my work is digital animation, inspired once again by the works of Satoshi Kon. Animation itself is a medium that I feel has always been more expressive than other orthodox artforms as it contains a larger dynamic range and has access to different forms of communication like sound.
Despite my exhibition being focused on the idea of duality, the purpose behind my exhibition is to evoke. This could be anything as I believe art is truly subjective and can be enjoyed uniquely by each individual. Each piece contains a different paracosm and situation as my exhibition is meant to evoke multiple different feelings, not just one unified feeling. Due to this obsession of wanting to evoke emotion with my audience, my works have often gravitated to more somber, serious themes like isolation, identity, and chaos. These themes also facilitated my over-excessive use of monochrome as I felt gradients of black more easily emphasized the somber moods of each topic. My work also aims to make the audience think. One of the more enjoyable aspects of art, in my opinion, is the ability to contextualize the work in your own perspective. Giving my audience their own chance to accomplish was also a part of my work’s goal.
My exhibition pieces were planned to be presented through a projector instead of a normal screen or TV. This decision was made in favor of the more rustic, rough feeling a projector can give with its absorption of the wall’s texture and more inconsistent light. My pieces would have been shown in a custom slideshow format where I have personally made the collage through video editing software. Through video looping, the exhibition would be able to fully sustain itself.
