About the Exhibition
The theme of my work is a compilation of my growth and life-changing experiences throughout my career. Every work in my portfolio involved a lot of hardships filled with emotions. Therefore, I decided to express my emotions that occurred at various times of my life tangibly in my portfolio. In sum, my portfolio is a compilation of my emotions during the life-changing experiences, which have made me become a bigger, mature person throughout my life.
Art speaks to me by stimulating deep emotions in me and I decided to spread my personal messages through my pieces that I cannot express with words. My emotions also run parallel to what many in society feel so I sought to utilize my artistry as a platform. Many pieces of my portfolio aim to confront the unquenchable wave of life emotions. They can be expressed with pain or with allure.
I experimented across various media, creating acrylic paintings, applying everyday materials in certain pieces, as well as making installation pieces. Each piece tells a different story that has happened during my life path. It could be my fulfillment, realization of life events, emotions, or marks of maturity. Concepts and issues that are associated with my work include prejudice, body positivity, and societal pressure. My future goal is to find creative and innovative ways to express my intention to encourage the viewers to ponder about my message and philosophy. I chose techniques that suit the intention of each work because each medium produces a unique effect.
Even though the space was limited, I tried to display my works in a way that the viewer can receive my message clearly. It is unfortunate that my works are all in greater sizes that the space feels too compacted. Although the displayed works do not perfectly fit in the provided space, I hope the viewer could receive my overall message of the work, which is the growth and the emotions and feelings that a person at a similar age as me can go through, appealing through pathos. I also hope the audience can realize that there are different ways of representing their growth and emotions in life and the exhibition works are the ways I can represent mine. To add on, they can guess what my intention is through scrutinizing each detail of my work before reading my artist statement.
